What Turkey visa types can travelers choose between?

Some countries may apply for a multiple-entry visa that allows a stay of 90 days in Turkey within 180 days. Other nationals can make an online application for a single-entry visa enabling a 30-day stay in the country.

What documents should I prepare before applying?

The most crucial document to prepare is a valid passport with at least 6-month validity. However, nationals of some countries need to attach certain supporting documents.

The additional supporting documents include:

  • A valid visa or residence permit to one of the Schengen countries, the USA, Ireland, or the UK
  • Proof of having sufficient funds for the trip
  • A copy of the return ticket
  • A booked hotel reservation proof
  • A round-trip ticket booked with specified airlines

Check if you need to attach any of the above-listed documents to your visa application. Please note that this is not a full list of the Turkish visa requirements to meet. Some nationals must be either under 18 or over 35 to apply for the e-Visa Turkey.

The national driver’s license, the vehicle registration document, and the “green insurance card” (must be valid for the Asian part of Turkey) are sufficient. It is strongly recommended that you take out comprehensive insurance and passenger accident insurance.

All insurance policies must be valid for the whole stay in Turkey. The nationality code ‘D’ on the rear of the vehicle is required, even if the number plate contains the EU badge. Suppose the vehicle owner is not the same as the traveler. In that case, the traveler/driver must have a power of attorney from the owner, which should be issued or certified by a Turkish diplomatic mission in their home country. This saves you from the long waiting times at the borders.

Some other regulations regarding the traffic are:

  • Accessories you may need are a replacement lamp set, fire extinguisher, two breakdown triangles, spare tires, first aid kit.
  • Notes: a power of attorney is required to drive someone else’s vehicle.
  • When driving at night, particular attention should be paid to insufficiently or completely unlit vehicles.
  • Telephoning is only allowed with a speakerphone.
  • Accidents must be reported to the police (call 155).
  • Horn before overtaking and before corners.
  • Snow chains and brake wedges are mandatory in case of snowfall.
  • There is no general winter tire requirement.
